SQUARE ONE.

Updated: May 10, 2019

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Bahia Eco-Club was sprouted in 2008 as a branch of the non-profit Global Student Embassy, however, in November of 2018, GSE declared bankruptcy, dissolved the organization and abandoned both the local eco-club school programs and intercultural exchange trips. While the support of Global Glimpse allowed us to complete our last Exchange season in Bahía, in April, they decided it was not in their best interest to continue supporting us. Following the loss of this NGO backing, access to our main site was blocked by the school administration, causing us to lose our collaboratively constructed toolshed, nursery and garden, created by both local + foreign students over the past 10 years.

Despite these challenging realities, the Eco-Club continues forward, powered by growing team of local youth leaders that are committed to continue to serve their community through environmental and outdoor education. Help us keep up the work!

WHAT WE NEED

Following these changes, we are left starting from Square One - our new worksite will be located in a post-earthquake abandoned portion of the Eloy Alfaro High School. Please consider supporting our efforts to rebuild and continue programming our Environmental Education and Youth Leadership Program in Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador.
